We are an old, established troop that runs on a tradition that goes back to 1929. We keep the outing in scouting, and the boy in scouts.

Troop 13 focuses on development of the individual character as well as scouting skills. We are youth-led, youth-run and use the patrol method of scouting.

Meetings are Wednesday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the basement of Centenary United Methodist church. Each meeting we work on scout skills, merit badges and rank advancement. Scouts need to be in full uniform and have their scout handbooks and a writing instrument with them.

The outdoors is our classroom, so you will find we are very active. We camp the second weekend of every month, September through may. We attend at least one summer camp each summer somewhere in the mountains of North Carolina or Virginia such as:

  • Camp Daniel Boone

  • Camp Cherokee

  • Camp Powhattan

  • Camp Boddie

Each scout will need a full BSA authorized class a scout uniform, to include socks, pants, shirt, belt etc. And a scout handbook. The troop will supply a troop neckerchief and a class b troop t-shirt. Other t-shirts, sweatshirts, and troop items can be purchased from the troop.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Proverbs 22:6

And He took the children

in his arms,

placed his hands

on them and blessed them.

Mark 10:16
