Baptism of the Lord Sunday

"This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."

These were the words that thundered down from the heavens when Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River.

So often, we hear voices telling us why we are not good enough, why we are not worthy of love, why we should never expect anyone, much less God, to be pleased with us. But in Baptism, God claims us as beloved children, created in the image of that same God. So as we celebrate Baptism of the Lord Sunday and remember our baptisms, we are reminded both who we are, and whose we are.
