No Condemnation
If we’re honest, most of us want those who have hurt us or our loved ones to be punished rather than rehabilitated. It doesn’t seem fair for them to avoid retribution, even if they change and become better people. In fact, many of us want not only the people who hurt us to be punished, but also those we don’t like or agree with. Taken to its logical extreme—which is usually the case—many of us hope that hell will be full of people who didn’t meet our standards for good behavior.
But is that a Christlike way to think about justice? Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” And He loves us all unconditionally, sacrificially, nonjudgmentally, without ceasing. We’re to be merciful even as God is merciful.
If you’re sometimes troubled by issues of justice, or if you’re intrigued by the idea that condemnation isn’t the only way, join us for worship at Centenary Church to find out more. Great music and good fellowship are part of the package. See you Sunday!
