Daily Encouragement - March 29

Mark 6:47-48 “When evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he [Jesus] was alone on the land. When he saw that they were straining at the oars against an adverse wind, he came towards them early in the morning, walking on the sea.”

There have been quite a few times lately when many of us have been straining against adverse conditions. While it’s true that those conditions have not been the same for all, it is also true that all have been affected by things that were out of their control. In my Wesley Study Bible, the Life Application topic regarding the above verse states that the disciples were doing their best to follow Jesus’ command, and may have felt abandoned.

Many of us probably have similar thoughts when those “adverse winds” of daily life leave us struggling. However we, just like the disciples, are always under the watchful eye of Jesus, who came to them at the right time and stilled the storm. So it is with us. Trust is most important when we think all we are dealing with is too much.

TFWS #2243 We All Are One In Mission

Now let us be united, and let our song be heard.

Now let us be a vessel for God’s redeeming Word.

We all are one in mission; we all are one in call,

Our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all.

O God, when you talk of faith in the Scriptures, you say that we need only but a little and we can do much. Deepen our faith. Help us to pray in full belief that you can do miracles. Help us to live, trusting that you are with us each step of the way. We know our faith will shake and falter, but continue to strengthen us and to let us see every moment that you are ever faithful. We know we can trust you. Help us to do just that. Amen.
