Only One Prayer |
It’s often said that “Prayer changes things,” and that’s partly true: It changes US. God is our Best Friend, our Confidant, our Mentor. Prayer is nothing more than communication with Him. Prayer is telling God everything: Our worries, our temptations, our resentments— and then, when it’s all said and done, resting in God’s love and renewing our joy. God may or may not change the situations we bring to Him, but the very process of sharing them in prayer can transform us. God loves us and knows our hearts, so we don’t need to use fancy, churchy language. There’s no magical formula for prayer. That’s what Jesus tried to get across when He taught His followers what we know as “the Lord’s Prayer.” We tend to think of those beloved words as a mantra we must recite or a type of Christian spell that brings our preferred reality into being. But the Lord’s Prayer is nothing more than an outline of how to make our time with God simple and honest. If you want to learn more about prayer, join us on Sunday. I look forward to seeing you at Centenary! |
